How to Make Fall Rice Krispie Treats
This fall themed Rice Krispie Treat recipe is the perfect excuse to make Rice Krispie Treats (as if you need one anyway). They are colorful and delicious. They are guaranteed to be a hit in your household.
This recipe uses a combination of a couple of different techniques we’ve used in previous recipes. We will use techniques from our colored Rice Krispies, specifically red, yellow, and orange. We will also use techniques we learned from the Rice Krispie Bites and Rice Krispie Balls recipes.
If you’re not familiar with any of these techniques, don’t worry. You can either click the links above and read those blogs or just follow along in this one and you’ll pick it up in no time.
Let’s get to the recipe!

Step One
Melt your butter at medium heat in a large stock pot. You can use a spatula to stir the butter around in the bottom of the pot until it is mostly melted.
Now take a bag of marshmallows and dump the entire thing into the pot. Our favorite marshmallows are Jet Puff Marshmallows. They seem to be the most consistent in both flavor and texture. But you can use your favorite marshmallows.
Stir the marshmallows and butter together until everything has completely melted. Now you will want to take out your orange, yellow, or red food coloring. Add the food coloring into your mix and stir. Continue to add food coloring until you have reached your desired color.
Step Two
Once your marshmallows are melted and they are the color you want them to be, pull out your Rice Krispies cereal. Now dump six measured cups of Rice Krispies cereal into the marshmallow mix. Stir until everything is mixed together completely.
If the cereal has soaked in some of the food coloring and the color is not quite as bright now you can add more food coloring if you like.
Step Three
For this next step, you will want a can of baking spray and a 9 x 13 baking pan. We like to use canola oil spray, but any flavorless baking spray will work just as well.
Coat the inside of your baking pan with the baking spray and then add the marshmallow cereal mix into the pan. Use your spatula to spread the mixture into the bottom of the pan until it is completely even.
Set your treats to the side and let them cool. This should take about 30 minutes or so, but you can quicken the process of it by sticking them in the refrigerator or even the freezer.
Step Four
Once your treats have cooled, it is time to form them into their proper shapes. Like we said above, we’re making both bites and balls. Fortunately, both of them require cutting in one by one inch squares.
Once you have everything cut into one by one inch squares, take half of them and put them away. The other half we will use as Rice Krispie Balls. Taking each square into your hand, you will roll them until they are completely round and sphere shaped.
Once everything is completely formed, get your squares back out. Arrange everything on your favorite autumn themed decorative plate, serve, and enjoy!
