    📖Substitutions & Variations

Here are a few ways you can customize the flavor of these cookies to suit your preferences.

    • Use different Hershey's Kisses - Hershey's kisses come in all kinds of different variations. Switch out the type you use to vary the flavor and change them up for different occasions.
    • Give the cookie base additional flavor: you can add 1 teaspoon of flavored extract like peppermint or almond into the cookie dough if you want a little flavor to your cookies.
    • Use food coloring - looking to serve these up at themed occasions? Add a dollop of food coloring to the cookie dough to make them any color you desire.

Want to make a similar cookie, but with a peanut butter flavor? Use these peanut butter cookies without brown sugar as the base.

    ⏲️Instructions

Follow along with these simple step-by-step instructions and process photos as you bake up a batch of these cookies for yourself.

Adding a hershey kiss to a baked sugar cookie.

Step seven: Once cookies are almost completely cooled, place one Hershey's kiss in the center of each cookie.

Hint: to help them stay thick and round, roll the balls of dough tightly in your hands before placing them onto the baking sheet.

    ⭐Recipe Tips for Success

    • Don't overdo the dough - to keep these soft and chewy, make sure not to overmix or overbake the dough. You should mix it just well enough so ingredients are combined. Cookies should be baked until edges are firm, but centers are still slightly soft.
    • Don't melt the kisses - if you pop the kisses on immediately after baking they will melt. You can freeze them to help them from melting, but also if you just add them when the cookies are almost completely cool that works also.
    • Soften the butter - make sure the butter is properly softened (this helps to avoid overmixing). It can be softened by sitting a whole stick at room temperature for an hour; or cut into pieces for about 30 minutes.

    Storage

Baked cookies: can be kept in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Or packaged the same way and frozen for up to a year.

Uncooked dough: can be wrapped in cling wrap and put in an airtight container and refrigerated for 2 -3 days. Or, packaged the same way and frozen for up to three months.
