📖Substitutions & Variations
If you know how to make the recipe fit a certain diet, let the reader know here. Don't fake it - only provide guidance on topics you have actual experience with.
- Change up the sprinkles - we used pink heart sprinkles, but you can leave the sprinkles out or add any type of sprinkle or candy mix in (Valentine's M&Ms would be super cute).
- Hand Shape - if you don't have cookie cutters, you can hand shape the dough into little hearts before baking. If you choose this route, you will have to chill the dough after shaping into hearts (2 hrs in the fridge or 30 mins in the freezer). And, make sure to make the hearts rather thin and long because they will spread some while baking.
- Missing ingredients - you can use a different chocolate chip dough recipe if desired like these Butterless Chocolate Chip Cookies or these Chocolate Chip Cookies without Baking Soda.

- Baking dough: if you want, you can simply take all of the dough and spread it in one sheet on the baking sheet instead of making large balls of dough.
- Don't overcook - to get the soft, chewy texture make sure not to overcook the cookies. Remove them from the oven when the edges are just light brown and firm. The centers will continue to firm up as they cool.
