    Horror Movie Charcuterie Cups

    Jump to Recipe

These Horror Movie Charcuterie Cups are the thing you bring to the Halloween party when you want to be the person who brought the coolest thing. Michael Myers, Ghostface, and Jason Voorhees made from fresh mozzarella using a silicone horror character mold, each skewered on a bamboo pick and placed front and center in individual cups alongside peppered salami, heirloom tomatoes, and an olive medley. They're individually portioned, easy to eat while standing around watching scary movies, and they will absolutely stop people in their tracks.

Halloween Charcuterie cups with mozzarella balls, olives, cherry tomatoes, mini peppers, and cured meat on skewers.

Each cup gets four picks - salami, tomatoes, olives, and the horror movie character mozzarella pick in front. The whole thing takes about 15 minutes to assemble once you have the mozzarella characters prepped. A small piece of tissue paper tucked in the bottom of each cup helps the picks stand upright without falling over. The recipe makes 3 cups and scales easily - just multiply straight across. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve. Prep time is 15 minutes with no cooking required.

The silicone horror character mold is the key piece of equipment here - the link is in the recipe card notes. The horror movie bamboo picks are available at Hobby Lobby seasonally. If you're planning a full Halloween spread, pair these cups as a starter alongside the Halloween Desserts and the Halloween Cookies to carry the Halloween theme all the way through from appetizer to dessert.

    • Small heirloom tomatoes
    • Assorted olives
    • Horror movie character silicone mold

    Instructions

A gray silicone mold with Halloween horror face shapes filled with cheese.

Step one: Press fresh mozzarella into each cavity of the horror movie silicone mold. Let sit for about 5 minutes, then carefully pull the characters out and slide each one onto a bamboo pick.

Skewers with mozzarella balls and cherry tomatoes topped with decorative leaf picks, displayed in brown paper cones.

Step two: Add a small crumple of tissue paper into the bottom of each cup to help hold the picks upright. Thread heirloom tomatoes onto one pick and add to cup.

Sliced peppered salami folded and threaded onto a wooden skewer with yellow leaf decoration on a wooden cutting board.

Step three: Fold peppered salami slices onto a second pick.

Green and dark purple olives on wooden skewers with decorative yellow leaf picks, arranged on a wooden cutting board.

Step four: Alternate olive varieties onto a third pick.

Charcuterie skewers with mozzarella balls, olives, cherry tomatoes, and salami in paper cups.

Step three: Place all three picks into each cup alongside the character pick. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Hint: Press the mozzarella firmly into every corner of the mold - any gaps or air pockets will show up in the finished character. Work the cheese in with your fingertips and make sure the cavities are completely filled before pulling.

    Recipe Tips for Success

    • Fresh mozzarella packed in water is the right choice here - it's soft enough to press into the mold and hold the detail. Aged or block mozzarella won't work the same way.
    • A medley of olives (green, Kalamata, castelvetrano) adds color and flavor variety to the olive pick - more visually interesting than a single type.
    • The tissue paper in the cup bottom is a small detail that matters a lot - picks that immediately fall over lose the whole effect. Pack the tissue in firmly.
    • These can be assembled 1-2 hours ahead and refrigerated - just add the picks right before serving so nothing wilts or softens.

    Storage

Keep refrigerated until ready to serve. Can be assembled 1-2 hours ahead. Press mozzarella firmly into every corner of the mold to capture full facial detail. Tissue paper in the cup bottom keeps picks from falling - pack it in firmly.
