Santa Oreos are apple pie Oreos dipped in red and white candy melts, topped with a marshmallow hat, and decorated with candy eyes to look just like Santa Claus. They are a festive no-bake Christmas treat that looks impressive with very little effort.

The technique is simple - dip, flash freeze, dip again, and decorate. Each cookie takes just a few minutes of hands-on time and the whole batch is done in about 25 minutes. They are great for holiday cookie exchanges, Christmas dessert tables, or gifting to neighbors and teachers.

Instructions
Preparation: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set out all decorating supplies. Melt the red candy melts and white melting wafers separately according to package directions. For the red candy melts, start with 2 minutes on defrost, stir well, then continue in 1-minute intervals as needed until smooth.

Step one: Dip the top of each Oreo into the red candy melts and place on the prepared parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step two: While the red chocolate is still wet, press one marshmallow onto the top of each cookie for Santa's hat pompom.
Step three: Place the baking sheet in the freezer for about 3 minutes to flash freeze. This sets the red coating before the white dip.

Step four: Remove from the freezer. Dip the bottom of each cookie into the white melting wafers, leaving the red-dipped top and marshmallow visible. Place back on the parchment paper.

Step five: Use a small amount of the white melts as glue to attach two candy eyes to the white portion of each cookie. Food tweezers help with precision. Allow to set completely before serving.
Hint: Flash freezing for just 3 minutes is enough - any longer and the red coating can get too cold and cause the white chocolate to crack when dipped.
Recipe Tips for Success
- Melt candy melts on defrost rather than regular microwave power - lower heat prevents scorching and keeps the chocolate smooth and glossy.
- Work quickly when attaching the marshmallow after the red dip - it needs to go on before the coating sets.
- Use food tweezers or toothpicks to place the candy eyes precisely - fingers tend to smudge the white coating.
- Let the finished cookies set completely at room temperature or in the fridge before stacking or packaging them.
Storage
Store Santa Oreos in a single layer in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Place parchment between layers if stacking to prevent the decorations from sticking together.
