Substitutions & Variations
With only seven simple ingredients there's not a lot to change in this recipe. But, here are a couple things we have tried.
- Change the sprinkles - You can use any type of sprinkle you desire. For example, if you are making these for a baby shower you might use pink or blue sprinkles.
- Use colored drizzle - We just used a simple chocolate drizzle to decorate these. But, if you're making them for another occasion you could use any colored candy melt to make sure they fit your theme.

Instructions
Follow along with these easy instructions to bake up a batch of your own fortune cookies.
Step one: make the slips of paper with fortunes on them. Cut paper into .5 x 3 inch slips and write different fortunes on them. You can also print these out if you prefer.
Step two: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line baking sheet with parchment paper and spray with non stick cooking spray.
Step three: in a bowl, combine egg white and vanilla whisking until it is frothy and bubbly.
Step four: add in salt, sugar and flour and whisk well to combine.
Step five: Drop two spoonfuls of batter onto the prepared baking sheet. Use a spoon to make them about 3 inches. Bake for 5 minutes.
Step six: quickly use a spatula to remove the cookies from the baking sheet while still hot. Add a fortune to the center and fold cookie over to cover the fortune.
Step seven: Place the folded cookie over the edge of a cup to create a crease in the center.
Step eight: After all cookies are shaped and cooled, drizzle with melted chocolate and top with sprinkles.
Hint: place cookies into the cavity of a cupcake tin after you shape them while they cool. This helps them hold their shape.
Recipe Tips for Success
- Two at a time - only bake two cookies at a time to ensure you can fold and shape them before they have cooled.
- Melting Chocolate - you can melt the chocolate in 30 second intervals in the microwave, stirring between.
- Shape cookies before they cool - you'll need to be careful when handling cookies since they will still be hot, but if you don't work with them hot they will become hardened and break instead of being able to be shaped.
- Cookies are done - make sure the centers are set and edges are browned when you remove cookies from the oven.
Storage
These can be stored for up to a week in an airtight container in the fridge or at room temperature. Or, they can be frozen for 6 months.
