How to Make Chocolate Rice Krispie Treats
Sweet, delicious chocolate is good for any occasion. It's perfect as a treat for just everyday or as a treat for special occasions like birthdays and holidays. These Chocolate Rice Krispie Treats are no exception!
If you are looking for a super easy (as in only 3 ingredients and no baking required!!) treat, look no further. I was SO excited to whip up my first batch of these and give them a try. And, let me tell you, they did NOT disappoint.
If you know how to make rice krispie treats, these are basically the same with just one small tweak.
They have the perfect amount of chocolate flavor without being way over the top. If you like way over the top, you might also try these Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats.
Step one
The first thing you need to do for these treats is to get your marshmallows and butter mixed together. To do this, you can use either the microwave or the stove top.
In the microwave, you will want to put the marshmallows and butter into a microwave safe bowl or dish and heat for about one minute to start. Check on them and then, I like to use 30 second intervals after that checking after each to see if they are ready.
It usually takes about 2 - 3 minutes for the marshmallows and butter to melt completely. Do make sure you don't overhear the marshmallows as that can cause them to get stiff and will make the overall texture of the treats hard instead of soft and gooey.
If you melt them together on the stovetop, use a low to medium heat.
Step two
This is the step where we deviate a smidge from original rice krispie treats. You will want to use Cocoa Krispies instead of original Rice Krispies cereal.
Once your marshmallows and butter are melted and mixed together, add in your Cocoa Krispies. Make sure to stir the cereal in so that it is evenly coated in the marshmallow mixture.
Step three
Using a pre buttered pan and a pre buttered spatula, spread your rice krispie and marshmallow mixture into your pan. You want to try and make it as even as possible so that your treats will be the same size.
Step four
Let your pan of treats cool for around 20 - 30 minutes. You can certainly eat them before this time, but during cooling they solidify and get the best texture.
Once cooled, you can cut into squares and serve.
