How To Make Fluffernutter Rice Krispie Treats
This recipe came about while we were making the marshmallow fluff Rice Krispie Treats. Right after we put the entire batch in the pan, we came up with this idea and decided to cut the batch in half and see if we could make a Rice Krispie Treat version of Fluffernutters.
Needless to say, that idea turned out to be a great one and now you get to experience it too.
Step One
Take out your trusty large stock pot and 3 tablespoons from a stick of butter. Turn your stove top heat to medium and melt the butter.
Once your butter is melted or mostly melted, take out your jar of marshmallow fluff. Scoop out all of the fluff and drop it into the pot with the melted butter. You can use a spoon to do this or an icing spatula to make sure you can scrape the sides of the jar clean.
It won't take very long for your marshmallows to start melting. As they melt, mix them with the melted butter until you have a large buttery, marshmallowy mix.
Step Two
Reduce your stove top heat to low or medium-low. Like in the original Rice Krispie Treats recipe, take out 6 measured cups of Rice Krispies cereal. Pour them into your marshmallow mix and begin to stir them together.
You want to cut the heat down so that your marshmallows do not overheat and become hard and brittle. But leaving the heat on will make it easier to mix everything together.
Using a spatula, stir everything together until it is completely mixed. You should have a large pot of what looks like a Rice Krispie marshmallow web.
Step Three
Take out your 9 x 13 baking pan and non-stick baking spray (like Canola oil). Spray the bottom and all internal sides with the spray. Using your spatula, scoop your treat mix from your large stock pot and into the 9 x 13 baking pan.
You can flatten the mix out into the bottom of the pan with your spatula. Make sure the entire bottom is covered with marshmallow treat mix.
Place the pan to the side and allow about 30 minutes to cool. If you would like, you can place them in your fridge or freezer to cool them a little more quickly.
Step Four
After your treats have cooled, put them back in your prep area and pull out your peanut butter. We estimate this is about a ½ cup but use however much or little you like.
Take the peanut butter and spread it across the entire top of the Rice Krispie Treats. You can use a butter knife or cake icing knife to do this. Make sure you have a decently thick coat.
This will ensure that you have the distinct separation of peanut butter and marshmallow fluff flavors and they will not taste the same as our regular Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats.
Finally, spread a handful or so of mini marshmallows across the top.
Step Five
You can now put your treats back in the fridge, if you like. This is a matter of preference. If the entire dish is cold, it makes it much less messy to cut through the peanut butter. But, you can also cut them immediately after spreading the peanut butter across the top.
Whichever method you choose, cut, serve, and enjoy!
