How to Make Spring Rice Krispie Treats
I have to admit, I was SUPER excited when I found these sparkly mini egg candies in the store. I immediately knew I wanted to use them to make a fun, colorful Spring themed Rice Krispie Treat.
If you love these mini eggs, you should also try these mini egg brownies, YUM!
The best part about about these treats is how the chocolate, candy coated mini eggs slightly melt when you add them to the cereal and marshmallow mixture. It makes them pop in your mouth with chocolate and it is SO delicious!
These are the perfect addition for any Easter gathering. As are these Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats and these Peeps Rice Krispie Treats.
Step one
The first step you need to take is to mix together butter and marshmallows. In order to get them mixed together, you need to melt both.
You can melt your butter and marshmallows in the microwave - this is the fastest way. It takes about 2 - 3 minutes total. I like to start at one minute, check them and then add around 30 seconds at a time after that until they are totally melted.
You can also melt you butter and marshmallows on the stove in a pan - this way takes a bit longer than the microwave, but you have more control in how they melt. Use low to medium heat, stirring occasionally until totally melted.
Step two
After melting and combining your butter and marshmallows, you can add in your Cadbury sparkly mini eggs. If your marshmallow mixture is piping hot, it will pop the eggs open.
I waited just about 30 - 60 seconds before adding the mini eggs in so that the mixture was a little cooled. But you want to be careful not to let it cool too much as the marshmallows will start to harden some.
Note: you could swap this step with the next step in order to have the mixture a tad cooler when you add the mini eggs. I did try this and found it a bit more difficult to totally mix the eggs in this way, but it is possible.
Step three
Next, you will stir in your Rice Kripies cereal. Make sure that your entire mixture is thoroughly distributed otherwise you will get spots that have too much of one ingredient.
Step four
After mixing all ingredients together, you need to spread your treat mixture out into a pre-greased pan. I like to also use a pre-greased spatula to try and help spread it. Make sure that you have it evenly spread into your pan.
Step five
Let your pan of treats cool. This usually takes about 30 minutes or so. Once cooled, they are ready to eat!
