If you were thinking that nothing could be better than Rice Krispie Treats combined with chocolate, have we got a recipe for you! This recipe for Chocolate Caramel Rice Krispie Treats is out of this world.
How to make Chocolate Caramel Rice Krispie Treats
Like we said above, nothing is going to blow your mind quite like combining chocolate and caramel with your favorite homemade original Rice Krispie Treat recipe. If you're curious to what this would taste like, they are similar to our caramel rice krispie treats or our peanut butter and chocolate Rice Krispie Treats, but just a little different.
For this recipe, you're just going to need the standard Rice Krispie Treat ingredients, plus some chocolate chips and caramel chips or candy pieces.
Let's start making them!
Step One
Measure out your butter and place it in a large stock pot on your stovetop. Set your heat to medium and allow the butter to start melting. While the butter is heating, grab a full 16 ounce bag of Jet Puff Marshmallows.
Once the butter has mostly melted, dump the whole bag of marshmallows into the pot. Take out a spatula and stir the marshmallows into the melted butter until everything is one big, melted, liquid mess.
When everything is thoroughly mixed, reduce your heat to low and move to the next step.
Step Two
Measure out 6 cups of Rice Krispies Cereal and pour them into the marshmallow mix. Again, using your spatula, stir everything together until thoroughly mixed.
Once everything is thoroughly mixed, remove the pot from the heat and get your chocolate chips and caramel chips ready. Take your time doing this because you want to give your marshmallow cereal batter enough time to cool so it doesn't melt the chips, but not so much time that it is difficult to mix.
Once the marshmallows have sufficiently cooled, go ahead and pour your chocolate chips and caramel chips into the cereal mix. Use your spatula once again to thoroughly mix everything together.
Step Three
For this step, you'll need flavorless baking spray in a 9 x 13 baking pan. We like to use canola oil spray or Pam, but you can use whichever baking spray you prefer.
Scoop all of your Rice Krispie Treat mix from the pot and into the 9 x 13 pan. Use your spatula to flatten the mix into the bottom of the pan until it is completely level and even.
Set your pan to the side and allow your treats to cool for about 30 minutes. While your pan of Rice Krispie Treats are cooling, you will want to take a small portion of chocolate chips and caramel chips and melt them either in a double boiler or in the microwave, whichever you prefer. Just make sure they are both still hot and liquid for the next step.
Step Four
While your Rice Krispy Treats are still cooling, take your melted chocolate chips and caramel chips and drizzle them in an overlapping pattern across the top of the treat pan.
Now allow your Rice Krispie Treats to cool the rest of the way, which will also give the chocolate and caramel drizzle time to harden.
We're getting close to the taste test, so hold on just a little bit longer.
Step Five
We're finally at the moment you've been waiting for!
Take out a sharp knife and get ready to cut your treats. Carefully cut your pan of Rice Krispie Treats into 2 x 2 inch squares. A 9 x 13 pan when cut this way should give you about 16 total treats.
And the final step is enjoy that!
