How to Make Peanut Butter Cup Rice Krispie Treats
Peanut butter cups are one of the most popular candies out there. That's why they come in packs of two because one is just not enough. So we decided to combine our favorite dessert, homemade original Rice Krispie Treats with our favorite candy and see what would happen.
As you may have already guessed, they are amazing!
You may have already tried our peanut butter Rice Krispie Treats or even our chocolate peanut butter Rice Krispie Treats. And while those are definitely worth making the Peanut Butter Cup Rice Krispie Treats are in a class of their own.
Peanut butter cup Rice Krispie Treats are more along the lines of M&M Rice Krispy Treats or Reese's Pieces Rice Krispie Treats. If you've ever made either of these, you'll be perfectly comfortable making them with peanut butter cups. Let's start the recipe!
Step One
Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a large stock pot over medium heat. While your butter is melting, pull out a 16 ounce bag of Jet Puff Marshmallows or your favorite brand.
When your butter is melted, pour the bag of marshmallows directly into the pot. Stir everything together using a spatula until the marshmallows have completely melted. Cut your heat down from medium to low.
Step Two
Now that your marshmallows are melted, go ahead and add 6 measured cups of Rice Krispies cereal into the mix. Stir the Rice Krispies into the marshmallows until everything is thoroughly coated.
You'll want to remove your pot from the heat completely. Allow the marshmallow Rice Krispie mix to cool for just a couple of minutes. We want them to be cooled enough that they don't melt the chocolate from the peanut butter cups, but not so cool that they are hard to stir.
While you're letting the rice crispy mix, cool, pull out your pre portioned peanut butter cups. You'll want to have already crumbled them up so that they're easy to mix.
Once the marshmallow mix is cooled down just a little bit, go ahead and pour your peanut butter crumbles into the Rice Krispie Treat mix. Use your spatula to stir everything together until it is mixed thoroughly.
Step Three
Coat the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan with your favorite flavorless baking spray. We prefer to use Pam or canola oil, but any will do.
Once you've sprayed your pan, go ahead and scoop your mix into the bottom. Use your spatula to spread the mix throughout the pan and flatten it.
Now set the pan to the side for about 30 minutes and allow the treats to completely cool.
Step Four
Now that the pain is called completely, take out a sharp knife. Carefully cut your treats into 2 x 2 inch squares. If you want to make these treats a little extra decadent, go ahead and put a mini peanut butter cup in the center of each treat.
Alternative Recipe
If you want a Rice Krispie Treat dessert, that's just a little bit outside of the norm. You can try these alternate directions.
Most of the directions are the same, however, at step 2 half all of the ingredients. Once you've pressed those treats into your pan, you will notice that they are a little bit thinner than you're used to.
Take regular size peanut butter cups and make a single layer across the top of your Rice Krispie Treats. Now go back to step ½ the ingredients again and flatten that out on a countertop. Make sure it is roughly the size of the bottom of the pan.
Now take that second flat and sheet of Rice Krispie Treats in. Place them on top of the Peanut butter cups. Now press down on the Rice Krispie Treats and make sure that they kind of melt into the peanut butter cups.
Cut these into 2 x 2 inch squares and you have a delicious Rice Krispie Treat peanut buttercup sandwich snack.
Whichever version of this recipe you try, you are sure to love it!
