Who doesn't love a nice chocolaty, peanut buttery flavored snack? Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerio Bars are sure to hit that craving whenever it strikes.
How to Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerio Bars
Cereal bars are on of my favorite twists on the original Rice Krispie Treat recipe. (Another of my favorites is Cinnamon Toast Crunch Bars). They satisfy my craving for a marshmallow snack but is different enough that it tastes new and exciting.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerio Bars are no exception. In fact, they are a welcome addition to this rule. They're great for kid's lunches or for a slightly healthier midday treat.
Some other chocolate flavored treats are: chocolate peanut butter rice krispie treats and Reeces Cup Krispie treats
Step One
These are as easy to make as Cheerio marshmallow bars or Honey nut cheerio bars.
Take out your large stock pot and place it on your stove top burner. Set the heat to medium and add 4 tablespoons of butter. Allow butter to melt completely.
Now add in 1 bag of marshmallows. Using a spatula, stir until your marshmallows and butter are completely melted together. Be careful not to heat the marshmallows too long. They become brittle and harder to mix later if they get too hot for too long.
You can also use our Microwave Rice Krispie Treats for this recipe.
Step Two
Once you have a nice gooey mess of melted butter and marshmallows, remove the pot from the heat. Now it's time to add in your Cheerios.
Take 6 cups of Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios and stir them into your marshmallow mix. This will take a few minutes to mix everything thoroughly.
Step Three
Take out your 9x13 brownie pan. Using a stick of butter or spray coat the bottom and sides of your pan. Do the same to your spatula. This will prevent sticking later.
You can use your spatula, maybe a second one, to scoop your mix into the pan. Do this until everything is out of the pot. Your spatula is a great tool to spread your mixture evenly in the whole pan.
Step Four
Once the pan is full and the mix is flat, set aside to cool for awhile. I will sometimes put it in the fridge if I'm running short on time. Cooling will make the dessert easier to cut and will be less of a mess when serving.
After it has sufficiently cooled, take a sharp knife and cut into 16 even squares. Put on a plate or napkin and enjoy!
