Did you know you can make Rice Krispie Treats in about half the time? It was a wonderful day when we figured out how to make microwave Rice Krispie Treats!

How to make Microwave Rice Krispie Treats
I don’t know about you but when I am having a sugar craving, I want it RIGHT NOW! That feeling can make the time melting butter and marshmallows on the stove top feel like an eternity. Luckily, we figured out how to make microwave Rice Krispie Treats.
Maybe that was a tad bit overly dramatic. However, the point still stands that you can cut the amount of time it takes to make Original Rice Krispie Treats in half.
What’s great, is this method works with ANY Rice Krispie Treat recipe regardless of is it uses other types of cereal like Lucky Charms Bars, cookies like our Oreo Rice Krispie Treats, Chocolate Chip Rice Krispie Treats, or even graham crackers and chocolate chips like our S’mores Rice Krispie Treats.

Step One
Take a large mixing bowl. We like to use a glass/pyrex bowl that is also microwave safe. The microwave safe part is really important. You don’t want something that is either going to get blazing hot or something that will explode in your microwave. Neither of these are good or safe.

Place your 3 tablespoons of butter in your bowl. Stick the bowl in the microwave and heat for about a minute. This time can vary depending on the microwave so you may want to check your times for best results. It’s okay if you still have a bit of butter that is unmelted.

Remove your butter from the microwave and add in a full 16oz bag of Jet Puff marshmallows. We use Jet Puff because they seem to be the most consistent in flavor and quality.

Put the bowl of marshmallows in the microwave. A full bag should take about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes to melt enough. You will definitely want to check throughout heating to make sure your marshmallows don’t either swell up and overflow out of the bowl or that they get too hard to mix.
Start with a minute and work your way up in time until they are ready to mix. You can tell when they are ready by their texture. If they are not quite melted enough, they will still feel a bit more solid. You will want them to feel melted but still hold their normal, albeit swelled up, shape.
Carefully remove them from the microwave. A microwave safe bowl should not be dangerously hot but it will still be hot enough to hurt. So use a pot holder or towel to remove the bowl.
Now, like regular Rice Krispie Treats, stir your marshmallows and butter together until you have a nice melted marshmallow/butter mix.

Step Two
Now, things will be a lot like making Rice Krispie Treats the way you are used to. Take your marshmallow butter mix and add in 6 measured cups of Rice Krispies cereal.

Stir everything together until everything is thoroughly mixed together. It will almost look like you have a marshmallow web holding all of your Rice Krispies together.

Step Three
Now, take out your 9 x 13 baking pan. You will also want to get out your non-stick baking spray. We like to use Canola oil but Pam or any other flavorless spray will work. Spray the bottom and sides of your pan with the baking spray.
With a spatula, scoop all of your marshmallow batter from the bowl and into the baking pan. With the same spatula you can flatten out your mix into the bottom of the pan.
Now, set the entire mix to the side and allow it time to cool.
Step Four
Once your Rice Krispie Treats have had enough time to cool you can cut them (it’s not cheating if you put them in the fridge or freezer, b-t-dubs). Use a sharp knife and cut into a 3 x 5 or 4 x 5 grid; depending on if you want 15 or 16 total servings.
Last, and most importantly, enjoy!
