If you love cookies and cream ice cream you are going to LOOOOVE these Oreo Rice Krispie Treats.
How to make Oreo Rice Krispie Treats
This may be the best recipe we have ever made. I have a soft spot for Oreos as it is, but adding them into Rice Krispie Treats make them out of this world. I even like them better than our S'mores, Butterscotch, Nutella and Lucky Charms bars.
Oreos give these treats a wonderful cookies and cream flavor. Just like our chocolate chip Rice Krispie Treats, they go perfectly with a tall glass of milk and make a great after dinner sit-down-watch-tv-before-falling-asleep-from-too-much-sugar snack (you know, the usual).
Step One
The first step in this recipe is to take out 30 Double Stuff'd Oreos. Place them into a large storage bag and crush into small pieces. You can try sticking them in a food processor but that may crush them too much.
Step Two
Put 4 tablespoons of butter into a large stock pot and place on your stove top burner. Set your heat for Medium and stir butter with your spatula until it has melted.
Once your butter is melted, add in a full bag of marshmallows. We like to use Jet-Puffed Marshallows. They typically mix better and have a better flavor than the store brand, but your mileage may vary.
Stir your marshmallows with your spatula until you have a nice marshmallowy butter paste. At this point decrease your heat to low-medium low. You don't want your marshmallows to get too hard from overheating.
You can also use our Microwave Rice Krispie Treats for this recipe.
Step Three
Measure out 6 cups of Rice Krispies and dump them into the large stock pot with your marshmallow mix. Stir together until the majority of your Rice Krispies are covered in marshmallow.
While your mix is still warm, poor in your bag of crushed Oreos. Continue to mix until everything is completely and thoroughly mixed together. After you're through, remove the pot from the heat and turn off your stove (safety first!).
They mix a little differently than your original Rice Krispies Treats recipe. The cream from the Oreos make the mix a bit greasier so they are a little less sticky.
Step Four
Spray the inside of a 9x13 baking pan with Canola oil or some other non-stick baking spray. Do the same to your spatula. This will make it much easier to work with your mix as you spread it into you pan.
Scoop your mix out of the pot and start to spread it into the 9x13 pan. Flatten ther Rice Krispie Treats out with your spatula until the cover the entire bottom of the pan.
Step Five
You can allow your Oreo Rice Krispie Treats to cool on the counter or, if you're impatient like me, you can put them in the fridge (or if you're really impatient...like me...you can put them in freezer). After they are sufficiently cool, use a sharp knife and cut them into squares. This recipe should yield 15 or 16 squares depending on the size you decide to cut.
