How to Make Santa Hat Rice Krispie Treats
No Christmas party is truly complete without a well stocked and well decorated snack table. If you can decorate and stock the snacks at the same time, why not do that?
These Santa Hat Rice Krispie Treats will look perfect alongside your Santa Rice Krispie Treats, your Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats, Stocking Rice Krispie Treats, and, of course, your Holiday Wreath Rice Krispie Treats.
This recipe is going to be very similar to the Santa Rice Krispie Treats. For your supplies, you're going to need a little bit of white icing, mini marshmallows, and you're going to need to know how to make Red Rice Krispie Treats.
Step One
You want to start out melting your butter in a large stock pot. We usually do this on a stovetop with heat set to medium.
When the butter has mostly melted, you will want to add in a full 16 ounce bag of Jet Puff Marshmallows. Stir your marshmallows and butter together until you have one big melted mess.
If you want to speed this up a little bit, you can follow our Microwave Rice Krispie Treats recipe.
Now take out your red food coloring and add it liberally into the melted Marshmallow and butter mixture. Continue to stir with a spatula until your marshmallow is a bright red color.
Feel free to add as much food coloring as you need until you get the shade of red you want. Reduce your stovetop heat to medium low or low.
Step Two
Once you have your marshmallows, the color you want them, it's time to add in 6 measured cups of Rice Krispies cereal. Mix the cereal in well with the marshmallow mixture until it is completely coated and everything is bright red.
You may need to add more food coloring at this point to get the cereal the proper color red.
Step Three
Now take out your 9 x 13 baking pan and your canola oil spray. Coat the sides and bottom of the pan with your spray.
Scoop your rice crispy mixture from your pot and directly into the pan. Use your spatula to flatten it out until it covers the entire bottom of the pan.
You will now want to set them to the side to cool for about 15 to 20 minutes. You can speed this process up a little bit by putting them in the refrigerator or even the freezer.
Step Four
Now it's time to cut your Rice Krispie Treats. As you can see in the picture, the Santa hats are diagonal cut and not typical squares. The easiest way to do this is to cut your pan and two by two squares, just like you normally would.
Now take each one of those squares and cut them in half along the diagonal. You should end up with about 30 to 32 triangle pieces.
With everything cut, you will want to set them to the side and get out your decorating supplies.
Step Five
The decorations for this are pretty easy. All you need is mini marshmallows and some white icing. We like to use the white icing you can get and a can that has the detachable star tip.
With your Rice Krispie Treat lying flat with the wide end closest to you and the narrow end away from you, you will want to put one star dot at the very tip of the narrow end.
Best, place a series of stars along the bottom of the wide end. You can probably fit 4 or 5 stars across the bottom. Now take your mini marshmallows and put one on each of the bottom row of icing stars. Leave the single star on the tip of the hat marshmallow free.
