Being the fans of Halloween that we are, we jump at the chance to make a spooky Rice Krispie Treats recipe. What could be creepier and spookier than graveyard Rice Krispie Treats?
How to Make Graveyard Rice Krispie Treats
This recipe is different than the majority of our recipes. Most of our recipes are your typical original Rice Krispie Treats squares. We may make them a different color or decorate the tops of them, but they're all primarily a square snack.
This Rice Krispie Treats graveyard started out as a fun design project idea. We got the idea of making a scene out of treats. We had a lot of fun making this and we think that you'll have fun too.
We didn't use any colors for this. We did use some candy gummy worms and we had some double stuffed Oreos leftover from when we made Oreo Rice Krispie Treats.
These treats are great for Halloween parties. Combine them with our Ghost Rice Krispie Treats, eyeball Rice Krispie Treats, Mummy Rice Krispie Treats, and Monster Rice Krispie Treats and have a whole Halloween theme.
Let's get to the recipe!
Step One
As always, we start with a large stock pot. Add your butter to the stock pot and set your stovetop heat to medium. Allow your butter to melt.
Add your Jet Puff Marshmallows to the pot. Stir those in with the melted butter until they have both melted together. Your pot should be full of a white sticky mess instead of fluffy marshmallows.
Step Two
Now take out 3 measured cups of Rice Krispies cereal and dump them directly into the pot. Stir the Rice Krispies in with your marshmallows until everything has an even coat.
Step Three
Take out an 8 x 8 baking pan and coat the inside walls and bottom with canola oil spray. You can also use whatever baking spray you like. We just prefer canola oil because it is flavorless and works very well.
Scoop the contents of your large stock pot out into the baking pan. Smash the Rice Krispie Treats mix into the bottom of the pan with your spatula until it is flat and even.
Set to the side and allow to cool. That should take about 20 to 30 minutes. While you're waiting, take about 10 to 15 Oreos, put them in a zip lock bag, and crush them. You can also pull out 2 to 4 gummy worms.
Step Four
Once everything is cooled, you can start cutting. You want to have a smaller 6 x 6 inch square cut from the full 8 x 8 pan. This will be your grave plot.
Take the remaining 8 x 2 inch strips and form them into a couple of tombstones. You can do this by hand or with your knife.
Toothpicks will make this section much easier, but they're not completely necessary. Take your tombstone and put two toothpicks into the bottom about halfway in.
Figure out where you want the tombstone to go on your 6 x 6 plot. Turn it upside down and stick the other end of the toothpicks into the plot. Repeat this for each tombstone.
If you like, prior to placing the tombstones, you can use black decorating gel to write messages. such as RIP.
With your tombstones in place, Take your gummy worms and lay them strategically across the 6 x 6 block. Take your crushed Oreos and spread them across the top of the gummy worms.
That's all there is to it! This is a really fun, creative project. Feel free to follow these instructions or get creative and make your own. Let us know how this goes for you in the comment section below or take a picture and tag us on Instagram.
