Are you looking for a fun dessert project? The whole family can enjoy? If so, Minion Rice Krispie Treats is right up your alley.
How to make Minion Rice Krispie Treats
Making Minion Rice Krispie Treats is some of the most fun we've ever had in the kitchen. The characters are super cute. And it's so much fun being able to see some of your favorite characters come alive through your decorating hand.
The basics of this recipe are pretty similar to our Wonder Woman Rice Krispie Treats recipe. You'll still make Blue Rice Krispie Treats. But instead of Red Rice Krispie Treats for the top half, you'll make Yellow Rice Krispie Treats instead.
When it comes to decoration, it's not gonna be too much different than our Dinosaur or Sesame Street Rice Krispie Treats.
Let's get started!
Step One
You'll need to decide right away if you are making two full batches or two half batches. These instructions and measurements will assume that you are making two full batches; one of each color.
Set a large stock pot to heat on your stove top and set the heat to medium. Once you've portioned out your butter, put that into the pot. It should only take a few minutes for your butter to melt.
Once your butter has mostly melted, add in a full 16 ounce bag of Jet Puff Marshmallows. Jet Puff is our preferred brand because it consistently has the best flavor and texture, but you can use any brand of marshmallow you like.
Use your spatula to stir your marshmallows and butter together. After a few minutes everything should be completely melted together. You will have one big white melted Glob of Marshmallows which should have a nice golden yellow buttery sheen to it.
Now it's time to add in your food coloring. We'll start with blue. Add in your blue food coloring. Use a lot because you want your Rice Krispie Treats to be really bright.
Stir everything together. At this point you should have a large bright blue ball of melted marshmallows.
It is possible to make this step go a little bit faster. Instead of using your stove, you can follow our microwave Rice Krispie Treat recipe and speed up the process a bit.
Step Two
Measure out six full cups of Rice Krispies cereal. Pour the cereal directly into the marshmallow mix and stir until everything is completely mixed.
Continue stirring until your Rice Krispies are completely covered in marshmallow and everything is the correct bright color blue. If you're not getting the desired color, you can always add more food coloring at this point.
Step Three
Now pull out your 9 x 13 baking pan or an 8 x 8 baking pan. If you're making half batches. Spray the bottom an inner sidewalls of the pan with canola oil spray. Honestly, you can use any baking spray you like. We prefer canola because it's flavorless and works very well.
Scoop your Rice Krispie Treat batter from the pot and into the pan. Use your spatula to press the Rice Krispie Treats firmly down into the bottom of the pan until everything is flat and even.
Now set this batch to the side and immediately start the next color. For yellow you will repeat the same steps up to this point. Once you have your Yellow Rice Krispie Treat up to this point, move to Step 4.
Step Four
With both colors completed and still warm, you'll want to cut them. Use a sharp knife and cut them into squares. We like to cut them in 1 inch x 1 inch squares or you can make them 2 inch x 2 inch if you want them to be larger.
Once you have all of your squares cut, you will want to take a blue piece and a yellow piece and push them firmly together. If you're using 1 inch x 1 inch rectangles, you should have a yellow and blue 2 inch x 1 inch rectangle.
Once you have all of your multi colored rectangles together you can move on to the decoration phase.
Step Five
OK, it's decoration time! Decorating is pretty easy, and it's a whole lot of fun. You will need a tube of black decorating gel and a pack of decorative candy eyeballs.
You want to look at the pictures of the characters we decorated, but also you can just Google Minions and make them your own. You can use the black gel to draw an outline for their glasses, their suspenders, and their hair. And then simply use the candy eyeballs as their eyes.
This project is a whole lot of fun, and it's something that the whole family can truly enjoy together. Maybe you can make them and then everybody can eat them while enjoying a family movie night watching Despicable Me!
