Learning how to make colorful Rice Krispie Treats opens up a whole new world of snack options. Today's color is going to be orange Rice Krispie Treats!
How to Make Orange Rice Krispie Treats
As with all of our other colored Rice Krispie Treats, red, blue, green, purple, etc, Orange Rice Krispie Treats is just the beginning of a ton of different kind of snack options. This particular recipe is the base for our pumpkin pie Rice Krispie Treats, our Halloween themed jack-o'-lantern Rice Krispie Treats, and a layer of the Rainbow Rice Krispie Treats recipe.
Let's not waste anymore time and get straight to the recipe!
Step One
The first thing you'll do is take out a large stock pot, stick it on your stovetop and start melting your butter. Once your butter is mostly melted, dumped in a full bag of Jet Puff Marshmallows. You can use any marshmallow you like. We prefer jet puff marshmallows because they tend to be the most consistent in texture and flavor, in our opinion.
Take out your spatula and stir the marshmallows into the melted butter until everything is one big melted mass. Once everything is melted together, take out your orange food coloring and add a liberal amount into the mixture.
Continue to add food coloring until you have the shade of orange you desire. Reduce the heat to low. Overheating the marshmallows can cause them to become hard and brittle.
Step Two
Next, you're going to take out 6 measured cups of Rice Krispies and add them into your orange marshmallow mixture. Use your spatula to stir everything together.
Sometimes the cereal will soak up the food coloring and cause the color to dilute a little bit. If this is the case, feel free to add more food coloring in at this point until you have the shade of orange you want.
Continue stirring until everything is well mixed.
Step Three
Now you'll want to take out your 9 x 13 baking pan. Before adding your Rice Krispie Treat mixture into that pan, make sure to spray it with a canola oil baking spray. Honestly, any kind of flavorless baking spray will do. We just prefer canola oil.
With your baking pan sprayed, add in your Rice Krispie mixture. Use your spatula to press the mixture into the bottom of the pan until everything is completely leveled out.
Now you want to set your Rice Krispie Treats to the side and allow them to cool. This usually takes about 30 minutes on the counter top, 15 in the refrigerator, and 10 if you're impatient and just want to stick them in the freezer (no shame, that's what we do too).
Step Four
Now that your Rice Krispie Treats are completely cooled, it's time to cut them. Take out your knife and carefully cut your pan of Rice Krispie Treats into 2 x 2 inch squares. This should yield you about 16 Rice Krispie Treats.
And that's it. Super simple! Right?
You can serve these treats as standalone squares or use them as a part of a holiday decorative dessert. The possibilities are endless!
