Rice Krispie Treat balls are the perfect snack for any dessert table, no matter the gathering. This recipe is quick, easy to make, and delicious. Plus with their miniature size, they are absolutely adorable!
How to Make Rice Krispie Balls
This recipe is super simple to make, even if you've never made Rice Krispie Treats before. And if you have made any of our Colored Rice Krispie Treats, Rice Krispie Treats Eyeballs, or Rice Krispie Bites, you are in familiar territory.
Let's get started!
Step One
First thing you will do is melt your butter in a large stock pot. We usually do this on medium heat, but you can set it to high if you're feeling particularly impatient. Use a spatula to push the butter around until it is mostly melted.
Once your butter is melted add a full bag of Jet Puff Marshmallows. Any brand you like will do. We just find the Jet Puff seem to be the most consistent in flavor and texture.
Using a spatula, stir your marshmallows and butter together until everything is completely melted and mixed. Now you will want to get out your food coloring. If you've never used food coloring with Rice Krispie Treats before, you can check out our red, blue, yellow, green, or purple Rice Krispie Treats posts.
Add in your food coloring and stir until you have the desired color.
Step Two
Now that your marshmallows are completely melted and the color you want them to be, pull out your box of Rice Krispies cereal. You want to add 6 measured cups of your cereal into the mixture.
Using your trusty spatula again, stir everything together. After a minute or two, you should have a big ball of colored batter. If some of the color has dulled while mixing, you can add more food coloring at this point.
Step Three
For this next step, you will need a 9 x 13 baking pan. You will also need a can of spray canola oil. Any flavorless baking spray will work. We just prefer canola oil.
Coat the inside of your baking pan with canola oil spray. Now take your premixed batter and push it into the baking pan. You will want to use your spatula to smash it flat into the bottom of the pan.
You now want to set your pan to the side for about 30 minutes to allow them to cool. Again, if you're feeling impatient, you can also stick them in the refrigerator or the freezer and cut that time in half.
Step Four
Once your Rice Krispie Treats have cooled sufficiently, it's time to cut them. Normally we would cut them into two by two inch squares. However, for this recipe we will cut them into one by one inch squares.
Using a sharp knife, cut your Rice Krispie Treats into the appropriate size. Once everything is cut, you will want to take each of the individual squares and roll them in your palm's until you have a ball. Continue to do this for every Rice Krispie Treat.
That's all there is to it! You can repeat this process for as many colors as you like. As we said above, they work for any occasion. You can coordinate the colors with your favorite holiday or event.
Enjoy!
