With the holidays quickly approaching, many of us are too busy making plans and scrambling for gift ideas (and how to pay for them) than to worry about our Christmas party dessert table. That is why Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats are so perfect. They are quick and easy to make and are perfect to bring in the season!
How to Make Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats
Christmas really is one of our favorite times of year even if it is hectic. But the stress and headaches of the season all payoff when you get to make those irreplaceable memories with family and friends. Holiday parties are the perfect events for fun and food!
This easy recipe for Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats is just one of our many Christmas and Holiday themed Rice Krispie Treats recipes. Put these on your dessert table next to Santa, Santa's hat, Stockings, Holiday wreaths, and even the Grinch. The best part about these snacks (other than how tasty they are) is that they can double as Christmas decorations!
This recipe will be pretty easy for you especially if you have made any of our colored Rice Krispie Treats and/or our Cookie Cutter Rice Krispie Treats. As far as additional supplies, you will just need some green food coloring, the same as in St. Patty's Day Rice Krispie Treats, red and green sugar sprinkles, gold and silver candy balls, and a tree shaped cookie cutter.
Let's ring in the holiday cheer and start making these Christmas Trees!
Step One
We start out like most of the recipes by melting your butter in a large stock pot over medium heat on your stovetop. Once you have melted butter add in a full bag of Jet Puff Marshmallows. Use a spatula to stir them together until everything is completely melted together.
While that is melting, take out your green food coloring. Once the butter marshmallow is melted with the butter, add in some food coloring and stir it all up. Keep adding food coloring until you have a bright festive green hue.
Decrease the heat to low and go to step two.
Step Two
Pour 6 measured cups of Rice Krispies cereal into the green melted marshmallow mix. Stir it all together, adding more food coloring if needed, until you have everything thoroughly mixed and coated in marshmallow.
Step Three
Spray the bottom and inner sides of a 9 x 13 baking pan with canola oil or another flavorless baking spray. Pour, or scoop, your batter into the baking pan. You can use your spatula to flatten it out until it is level and even with the bottom of the pan.
Set the pan to the side and allow it to cool for around half an hour. You can decrease the time a smidge by putting it in the fridge or freezer, if you like.
Step Four
After your treats have cooled, bring out your tree shaped cookie cutter and plan out the best places to cut so that you have as little wasted treat as possible. Line your cookie cutter up where you want it and firmly press down.
You will probably have to push pretty hard until the cookie cutter digs into the Rice Krispie Treats since the treats are usually thicker than the cookie cutter. You can then use a knife to trim the excess treat from around the tree shape.
(Pro tip: after you cut out all of the trees you can smoosh the "extra" back together and usually get a couple more trees out of it.)
Step Five
Finally we are ready to make these green trees look like they really are Christmas Trees. Sprinkle a satisfying amount of red and green sanding sugar across the face of the tree. Then take the gold and silver candy balls and put them in lines to look like garland (see picture above) or you can place them in various places, and use different colors, to look like ball ornaments.
Now, just set them out with the rest of your Christmas desserts and enjoy!
